New Rules for Your TPT AZ Tax Number You Must Have Your Valid # Before Coming to the Show to be a Ve

Please note new AZ tax rules: Vendors must have their TPT tax number before they come to register and set up for the Quartzsite Gold Show.

This article has links to renew or sign up for the TPT tax number. If you sign up online you can receive it the same day.

Tax License Rules AZ TPT you cannot sell in Arizona without a TPT license number if your business activities are subject to the tax. A Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) license is required for all individuals and businesses selling products or engaging in taxable services in the state, even for temporary activities like selling at a single special event.

Operating without the proper licensing can result in penalties and interest charges, and may be considered a class 3 misdemeanor.

    Key Points

    • Requirement: The TPT is a tax on the privilege of conducting      business in Arizona, not a sales tax on the customer, and the seller is      liable for remitting the tax.
    • No Grace Period: There is no grace period to operate without a      license while waiting for your TPT number. You must register with the      Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) before engaging in any      taxable business activity in the state.
    • Exceptions: The main exceptions are for "casual      sales" (isolated, one-off transactions like a garage sale) or if you      are an agricultural producer selling your own raw food products.
    • Special Events/Online: This requirement applies even if you      sell crafts as a hobby, operate online with physical presence in AZ, or      are a transient vendor at a single event.
    • City Licenses: In addition to a state TPT license, most cities in      Arizona also require a separate city business/privilege tax license if you      operate within their jurisdiction.

    Next Steps

To sell legally in Arizona, you should:

    • Apply for a TPT License: You can apply online through      the AZTaxes.gov website or      the Arizona Business One      Stop portal.
    • Check City Requirements: Contact the city or town where you      plan to sell to find out their specific licensing requirements and fees.
    • Document Everything: Once licensed, you will need to      collect and remit the appropriate taxes and keep proper records of all      sales.
